My Julep December 2018 box was again significantly delayed and didn’t get to me until December 19th, which is only one day from selection day for the next month’s box. I don’t know what’s going on, but we didn’t receive any explanation this time, and my email queries to customer service went unanswered. 😦
I would probably be more annoyed by this if I didn’t have more important things going on. I guess Julep continues its downward trajectory in terms of customer service, I’m sad to say. Anyway, onward.
Here’s what I got this time:
- When Pencil Met Gel Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Rose Gold Shimmer ($16 regular, $12.80 Maven), 0.042 oz, 1.20 g (an accidental duplicate);
- When Pencil Met Gel Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Golden Olive Shimmer ($16 regular, $12.80 Maven), 0.042 oz, 1.20 g;
- Sloan nail color ($14 regular, $11.20 Maven), Icy Primrose Shimmer 0.27 fl oz, 8 mL; and add-ons:
- Avant Garden Polish Trio (Holiday 2018);
- Surreal World Polish Duo (Holiday 2018);
- Colored cactus nail decals;
- White snowflake nail decals; plus
- bonus gift for 3+ add-ons (Violette (“Twilight Sky Multidimensional Glitter”) nail color ($14 regular, $11.20 Maven)); and
- the December 2018 Maven Monthly insert
Again, no freebie this month (I miss those random candies), and packaging for these boxes continues to be minimal and functional; just some kraft paper padding and a card. It still makes me a little sad.
This month’s quote:
“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” – Oprah Winfrey
A little preachy, but all right, I guess. I personally preferred the quotes like the Rumi and the Dr. Seuss ones I received with previous boxes.
Here’s the Golden Olive Shimmer eyeliner up close. It’s one of my favorites now. Like the name suggests, it’s an olive-green eyeliner with a fine gold shimmer, and the formula is great, like the other eyeliner pencils in this line. I need a primer to wear any eyeliner because my eye area is so oily, but it lasts pretty much all day with primer, even on me (and I get crazy raccoon eyes with most eye makeup), though it was a bit smoky-looking by the evening. I love it for everyday wear (though, yeah, I’m not much of a makeup person despite what my blog might suggest, so I don’t actually wear it every day, but it’s not at all outlandish or gaudy)!
This month’s promo code is PARTY, for a free polish with any $10 purchase at Julep.com, through 12/31/2018. (Sorry, I posted too late, so it’s expired.)
I didn’t take a new photo of the Rose Gold Shimmer eyeliner because it’s an accidental duplicate. I already posted a photo in my last unboxing.
I’m a little confused in retrospect that Sloan was the polish that attracted me last month, but I’ve swatched it, and it’s fine, if not terribly exciting.
The nail decals are adorable, but I haven’t had a chance to use them yet:
The monthly Julep box is still a more economical and convenient way to get your Julep items regularly if you enjoy them, but it doesn’t feel like a fun subscription box anymore. It’s more of a scheduled supply delivery these days. As long as you have the right mindset, you probably won’t be disappointed. The prices for items are much more reasonable when purchased as part of a monthly box, and the option to use Jules (their reward-point system) to pay for items is nice. I really do miss the themed boxes and surprise freebies, though, and even the nicer quote cards and fun packaging with themed tissue paper and colored paper crinkles. I wonder if they’ll ever bring that back.
Until next month! Hopefully I’ll be able to post a more timely unboxing next time!
