Defy & Inspire Next Season On

I saw Defy & Inspire Next Season On at Target and kept passing it up, but I eventually ended up picking it up on a shopping trip to grab some paints for ‘Fiend, Jr.

(Random shopping tip: I don’t know if this happens to you with Target, but it’s cheaper for me to buy most items if I order them online and pick them up in-store. The in-store prices, for some reason, are way higher. For instance, this nail color was $7.49 on but over $9 in the store!)

Next Season On is a cool-toned medium gray creme with rose-gold/copper shimmer. This is two coats with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel top coat.

I had no notable problems with the formula or dry time, though it started chipping after a few days, possibly because I’m trying a different base (Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Hardener) in an experiment to see if anything can replace my current favorite, Nail-Aid Peeling Nail Intense Repair Gel.

I don’t generally have peeling nails, but the Nail-Aid Peeling Nail (no longer in production or renamed) is the only base coat I’ve tried so far that doesn’t overly dry out or harden my nails so that they become brittle and start breaking easily. I can’t tell if it’s because of previous damage from the Zoya base/top coat or from the current Sally Hansen treatment, but I’m still having huge chunks of nail just crack and break off. D: If you have any recommendations for naturally hard nails prone to over-hardening and breakage, please let me know!

I should have known I already had a somewhat similar color, Revlon Parfumerie Italian Leather (untried, to boot), but I guess I should do a face-off comparison swatch at some point to see exactly how similar!
